Employee Engaging through Fun Activities
Many managers fail to find the right ways to engage their employees. Creating a feeling of belonging and community among your employees can enhance your company culture and interaction between colleagues.
First and foremost, spring screams Easter celebrations! If you work in a company that has gone back to the office, the right office engagement idea could be Easter themed. An “egg hunt” could be the unexpected but fun team building activity of this quarter. It can also be a way to lift their spirits.
Same idea can be implemented for Christmas or any other seasonal celebrations.
Bonding activities can also be a great way to manifest that family feeling; be it through exercise groups, book clubs, hobby-focused groups, or simply going out for a meal all together every once in a while. Such activities can enhance employee wellness and overall workplace productivity.
If your company is large enough, consider creating a league of any sport that your employees enjoy. The team could be from different departments, which is an ideal opportunity for them to get to know people from other corners of the office. This initiative also brings out the competitive side of your employees and can help them blow off some steam.
Employees are also much more likely to perform well when they feel a sense of belonging to the company. This often happens when people have positive relationships - even friendships - with at least some people at work. In stressful times, it is these relationships and bonds that keep us going. Encourage such an atmosphere by setting up blind lunches with employees from different departments to get to know each other and bond. Each person is bound to click with at least one of their colleagues, creating a sense of community and motivating them to work together harmoniously.
Spring is an ideal time to bring the green in. Add some fresh plants or flowers around the office space for improved morale and productivity. You can also take it a step further and plant some seeds with the team as a fun office engagement activity. If you have an outdoor space that would be perfect to plant some seeds as you can follow the progress and growth of your plants. If you don't have an outdoor space then look into taking this activity to a communal garden in your neighborhood. Pick some interesting and unusual seeds for an added twist.
During COVID-19
Just because some or most people are still working from home, doesn’t mean they have to be completely disengaged from their teams. Scheduling weekly check-in meetings is very important. It is also possible to meet up while maintaining proper social distancing to protect yourselves and each other. Set aside a day once or twice a month where teams can have a socially distant meet up in an outdoor area to catch up and reconnect. This can work wonders for their morale and give a sense of normalcy to a rather bizarre time.
A rather unusual office engagement idea is having an office pet. Nothing lifts peoples’ spirits as much as interacting with pets. Barring any extreme animal phobia, your employees will love this and it can be a lovely way for them to cope with high stress situations. What kind of pet to get is completely up to you and your company culture?
