Creating Strong Personnel and Improving Self-Esteem

With the need for a globalized business becoming more and more necessary, it is up to you to make sure your staff is trained to have strong personalities and the ability to stand as tough and flexible, in order to help out customers and clients all while standing their ground.

Become Tough and Flexible

By having both of these necessary qualities, it is going to help your employees (and yourself) adapt to the continually changing environment of business, all without bending and breaking to what might take place. There are many trees in the forest that are able to withstand sudden changes of wind and weather, all without breaking because of it. This is exactly how your staff needs to be and act like, in order for you to reach your desired goals and prove successful.

In order to do this, there are two different kinds of learning which are necessary for desirable behavior modification and to improve the self-esteem of employees. Without strong self-esteem, an employee is more likely to break, especially under the stress a hectic workplace can cause, which ultimately reduces their ability to stay productive and perform their jobs to the best of their ability.

Two Types of Behavior Modification

For someone to demonstrate both strength and flexibility, it is important to undertake two different types of behavior modification, or two forms of learning. The first form of learning is known as "Action-based thought." Essentially, when someone faces a problem, there is the general thought process that looks at the situation by deciding what should be done in order for it to turn out well, and what would ultimately prove most helpful to ensure the desired outcome comes to fruition. In order to determine the best way of solving a problem in this way, both employees and yourself as a manager need to learn necessary problem solving skills and utilize practice techniques to bring about the desired course of action.

The second form of behavior modification is when you question the situation. You might ask yourself "Why do I stick to this one strategy?" or "I understand what to do, but why can't I put it into action?" while performing a specific task or problem. When looking at these feelings, fixations and different anxieties, the ability to overcome the difficulty of letting go of the ideas will eventually lead to a new kind of action all together.

With the workplace continually changing, the need for the second behavior modification has increased drastically. Many tasks which seemed common place and routine are now changing, often because of the nature of international business, with different cultures and clients performing typical tasks in a completely different way.

Self-Esteem

In order to prove capable of adapting to the situation and change the course of action of any task, maintaining a strong self-esteem is important. Once self-esteem is lost, a person is no longer able to complete a desired task and stay confident with the situation. Confidence is often one of the most important aspects in business, so without self-esteem it just isn't possible to go about making these required changes.

There are three basic components to self esteem. These three components are:

  • Feeling of significance - my existence is important and meaningful.
  • Feeling of competence - I have the ability to solve a variety of problems.
  • Likability - I like who I am.

When someone understands how important their services is to a company, know what they do is important and ultimately love themselves for who they are, an individual is going to increase their self-esteem, which in turn is going to allow them to become more competent and compatible in the work place. Once an individual obtains these three components of self-esteem, they are going to be able to express their capabilities to the fullest possible extent, which in turn is going to allow them to stay true to their values, and strengths, but also prove flexible in performing different tasks, as the high self-esteem can give an individual the confidence necessary to adapt to a situation and know whatever they are doing is going to help not only the customers out, but the entire team and business as well.

Maintaining strong personnel in the workplace is very important, as a strong team with the ability to adapt allows the business to interact with different clients, regardless of their locations or mindset. To do this though, your employees must prove both strong and flexible at the same time. This is possible through slight behavior modifications and always having the very best and highest self esteem. We started offering an educational program ( The Human Element® ) in 1988 in Japan that focuses on self-esteem, which now being applied in many human resources development programs throughout the business world.
