Ideas for Virtual Teambuilding Activities to Keep Your Team Engaged

With the ongoing situation of COVID-19, and with no definite solution presented, working remotely seems to be the option to hold on to for the time being. And while it seems to be a challenging task to boost the morale and engagement of your team members, with simple virtual activities for team building, it can be typically the opposite.

The importance of virtual team building activities lie in the following:

  • Strengthening the level of communication between the team members who work remotely
  • Enhancing the level of cooperation between the team
  • Ensures a high level of employee engagement
  • Enhances the experience of working remotely for employees

To get to such objectives, there are some good applicable ideas to better engage your remotely working team members. This time, we introduce you to one of it:

・All About You

Purpose: Helps team members know more about each other, it can serve well as an ice-breaker for new team members being onboarded.

One good activity a manager can do, is to give the time and space to their team members to share their unique stories and experience. Some managers/organizations tend to assess the strengths profile of their new hires so they can know better how to build upon their strengths and better grow both on the professional and the personal levels. It becomes quite bonding and engaging for employees to share their strengths and uniqueness with their fellow teammates and with their managers.

Such activity can be beneficial in so many ways:

  • Strengthens the sense of confidence of the individuals inside the team
  • Deepens the understanding of the differences of the team members, which reflects on overall collaboration levels
  • Creates a more inclusive environment and takes the team’s/organization cultural inclusivity to a whole different level
  • Builds trust between team members and the team leader

It is important to highlight that the sense of appreciation for one’s individuality, strengths, and experience affects positively the relationship between the different team members to one another, and the different team members with their managers, and on a meta-level, the different team members and the organization.

Duration: The time needed for the activity depends on the number of team members. Each individual can take from 5 to 10 minutes, and the activity can be repeated as much as needed and can be rather integrated with different activities.
