Building Effective Relationships: Reaching the Top!
A crucial component of emotional intelligence is interpersonal competence. We all have different perspectives and strengths. A group can be more productive when working with a team of people with different perspectives and strengths by increasing the versatility of approaches to people and problems. Socially adept people can better form lasting friendships and have a deeper comprehension of both the self and others.
There are numerous ways to build effective relationships:
- Pose open-ended inquiries: This will help others open up more as it helps them talk about their interests and selves.
- Find conversation starters to help you begin discussions: There are several questions that you can pose to get the conversation going, such as: When was the last time you went to the movies? What's the last book you've read? What's your favorite movie genre?
- Take note of the social abilities of others: This will help you learn further from them
- Maintain eye contact: It helps show others that you care and creates a deeper connection with them
- Develop your social abilities: Working on social abilities is a journey, the more you work on your social abilities, the more you hone your skills further and reap the benefits
- Utilize active listening skills: Active listening helps you empathize with others and understand them further
- Show consideration towards others: Through active listening, empathizing, and open-ended questions, you can show concern for others.
- Take note of your body language: Make sure your gestures and eye contact reflect concern, care, and openness
- Use the "Bridging" technique: Your capacity to understand the perspective of others and match your own perspective to theirs which enhances communication.
