EI vs. IQ: Which Comes First?

Did you notice that "Emotional Intelligence" comprises almost two contradictory terms: "Emotions" and "intelligence"?
Since when do the heart and mind come together hand in hand?

Yes, Emotional Intelligence makes this friendship possible!
Let's understand more.

"Intelligence" and "emotion" are two concepts that are included in the idea of Emotional Intelligence. Emotions fall within the emotional domain of mental functioning, whereas intelligence is part of the cognitive realm. The capacity to acquire and use knowledge and skills is what is meant by intelligence.

IQ was once thought to be the main factor in determining success. Researchers questioned whether Intelligence resulted from genes or environment and believed that people with high IQs were destined for a life of success (the nature versus nurture debate).

Some detractors started to see, nevertheless, that brilliance alone was not a guarantee of success in life. Perhaps the concept was too limited to completely capture the diversity of human capacities and knowledge.

Even now, IQ is still seen as a crucial component of success, especially regarding academic performance. People with high IQs frequently perform well in school, often make more money, and generally tend to be healthier.

But today's specialists acknowledge that IQ is not the primary factor determining success in life. Instead, it is a component of a multifaceted set of factors that also includes Emotional Intelligence. Nowadays, many businesses need Emotional Intelligence training and incorporate Emotional Intelligence exams into the employment procedure.

A high Emotional Intelligence is a crucial trait for corporate leaders and managers, according to research that shows those with good leadership potential also tend to be more emotionally intelligent.

When faced with purchasing options, individuals' emotional capacities might also affect their decisions. Despite having to pay more for a worse product, individuals prefer doing business with people they like and trust, according to Nobel Prize-winning psychologist Daniel Kahneman.

We can sum up everything using this research and statistics results. The best indicator of performance is Emotional Intelligence (EI). It explains 58% of performance across all job kinds. The research that led to this conclusion used data from over 75,000 randomly selected individuals worldwide.1

We can thus quote Daniel Goleman: "IQ gets you hired, Emotional Intelligence gets you promoted."
