Technocultures: When Technology Boosts Culture
A multidisciplinary, science-based approach to improving workplace culture is known as "culture technology." It aims to assist everyone — from senior executives to new hires — in collaborating to create a deliberate and purposeful culture. For example, Top Workplaces use various means to solicit employee feedback and drive meaningful dialogue with employees.
The main aim is to build trust and help employees feel heard. As an example, some companies use short-pulse questions between annual surveys to track progress. Other organizations use anonymous channels through which organizations can provide their feedback anonymously. A medical records digitization company used this method to solicit employees' feedback regarding barriers to growth. It managed to grow from 400 employees to 1000 without losing sight of its culture. Top workplaces' leaders understand that culture is the cornerstone of success, and they know how to leverage technology to improve the workplace. The problem is looking past the apparent role of technology — efficiency and speed – and figuring out how to engage the human spirit.
The new fusion of disciplines can significantly improve the core interactions that make up our work experience, including a person's relationship with their job, manager, coworkers, and the company itself.
Achieving this necessitates going above and beyond standard internal communication efforts like town halls, executive videocasts, and IM-jams. Instead, it entails establishing communication channels through which employees may interact, form communities, recognize one another, and share genuine criticism without fear of punishment or exposure.
So, how do you make excellent use of technology in the workplace? Begin by focusing on the positive qualities of your culture and establishing genuine friendships based on trust and appreciation. Negative emotions will develop; channel them constructively and teach senior leaders to accept and act on feedback.
We can build more productive workplaces, truly aligned teams, better connections, a better coaching environment, and improved effectiveness if we are attentive about how technology impacts our culture. Consider how technology will influence your culture. Put technology to its best use: creating a distinctive and unique workplace culture1.
